Disabled Members Advocate for Accessibility at Picket Lines
Disabled writers and actors participating in the ongoing strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) are facing challenges with picket line accessibility. The physical strain, lack of shade, noise, and heat are particularly difficult for disabled individuals, and the picket lines often lack basic accessibility. Disabled artists are advocating for safer and easier experiences on the picket lines, including designated reduced noise spaces, availability of chairs, and improved transportation options. The unions and fellow members have been receptive to addressing safety concerns, but some obstacles are beyond their control.
