The directors of Star Wars Outlaws, a new game from Ubisoft, have released a commentary video explaining the narrative choices and world-building behind the game. The game follows a scoundrel named Kay Vess as she navigates the criminal underworld of Toshara and evades the Empire. The game will feature space combat and high levels of wanted-ness from the Empire. Star Wars Outlaws is set to release in 2024.
Streaming services have failed to include director's commentary, a staple of physical media, frustrating both filmmakers and movie buffs. The Criterion Channel is the only streaming service consistently supporting audio commentaries. Distribution contracts and licensing issues may be the real barrier to adding audio commentary, and even buying it digitally is not an easy solution. Some movie buffs have taken the lack of commentary on streaming into their own hands, ripping dozens of audio commentary tracks from DVD and Blu-ray releases and publishing them in podcast feeds for anyone to listen to.
