Pedro Pascal's absence from The Mandalorian season 3 was due to scheduling issues with his other project, The Last of Us. Although he wore the suit for a couple of episodes, he wasn't able to appear on camera. This explains why Din Djarin didn't remove his helmet during the season. The Mandalorian is expected to return for a fourth season.
The Mandalorian Season 3 finale sets up a "soft reboot" for Season 4, with the big plot threads seemingly resolved. In the season 3 finale of "The Mandalorian," Din Djarin and Grogu team up with Bo-Katan Kryze to defeat Moff Gideon and his Imperial troopers. They discover Gideon's cloning lab and destroy it, but Gideon ultimately dies in a fiery explosion. Bo-Katan becomes the official ruler of Mandalore, and Din adopts Grogu as his son. The season ends with no mid-credits or post-credits scene, but co-creator Jon Favreau has said that he and Dave Filoni have already written scripts for season 4.
In the penultimate episode of The Mandalorian season 3, Moff Gideon plans to create an army to bring order to the galaxy and orders an attack on the Mandalorian fleet. Bo-Katan and her team go to Mandalore to scout things out and are ambushed by stormtroopers clad in beskar. Din is tied up by the troopers and Gideon arrives, boasting of his new Dark Trooper suit and plan to create an army. Bo uses the Darksaber to escape, while Paz Viszla sacrifices himself to hold off the commandos. Grogu says his first words and pilots IG-12.
