NBA Draft Lottery Fallout: Pistons Still Eyeing 2023 Star
Despite the Detroit Pistons dropping four spots in the NBA draft lottery, history shows that teams can still end up with a better player than the No. 1 overall pick. Of the six teams that suffered the maximum drop in the lottery since 1990, four ended up with a better player than the top pick. Examples include the Denver Nuggets selecting Dikembe Mutombo in 1991 and the Portland Trail Blazers selecting LaMarcus Aldridge in 2006. The Sacramento Kings, who had a 25% chance at No. 1 in 2009, ended up with Tyreke Evans instead of Blake Griffin, Stephen Curry, or Ricky Rubio.
