"Transgender Female Athletes Banned from Elite Track Competitions"
The World Athletics Council has banned transgender athletes from international competition and adopted new regulations that could keep athletes with differences in sex development, such as Caster Semenya, from competing. Athletes with differences in sex development will have to undergo hormone-suppressing treatment for six months before competing to be eligible. The new regulations could impact up to 13 current high-level runners. The decision is expected to stoke outrage among advocates who want people assigned female at birth to be able to compete on even footing and others who don’t want to discriminate against transgender and DSD athletes.
