Microsoft experimented with various design concepts for its new Office icons, exploring radically different ideas before settling on the current colorful, curvy designs for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, which are now being rolled out across Windows and iOS.
German translator PaulFelixKelly obtained a prototype Nintendo Switch unit containing early menu mockups, revealing colorful and chaotic designs reminiscent of the Wii U's menu. The mockups, dated from 2015, feature game icons from the Wii U and 3DS, including lesser-known Nintendo characters. Additionally, design concepts for the Nintendo NX, which later became the Switch, were also found, showing minimal differences from the final product. While the colorful mockups are intriguing, Nintendo ultimately opted for a cleaner design.
