Gladiator sequel cast shakeup: Marvel star and new actors join, while Barry Keoghan drops out.
The cast for the upcoming Gladiator sequel is taking shape, with May Calamawy, Lior Raz, Derek Jacobi, Peter Mensah, and Matt Lucas among the actors recently hired. Fred Hechinger is in talks to play Emperor Geta. The film is said to take place 30 years after the original storyline and will feature Irish actor Paul Mescal in the lead role of Lucius. The plot centers on Lucius, who is now the Emperor, and is not a direct sequel or remake. There is no official word on when principal photography will begin.
