Thousands Attend Funeral of Slain Deputy Kaitie Leising from Across Midwest

Several officers from different law enforcement agencies attended the memorial service of St. Croix County Sheriff's Deputy Kaitie Leising, who was killed in an officer-involved shooting while responding to a drunk driver incident in Wisconsin. Leising had previously worked with the Pennington County Sheriff's Office in South Dakota and had attended the South Dakota Law Enforcement Academy with six Sioux Falls Police Department officers.

The funeral for St. Croix County Deputy Kaitie Leising, who was shot and killed during a traffic stop last week, is being held with law enforcement honors. A public visitation was held earlier in the day at Hudson High School. A law enforcement procession is also expected to take place, and the public can show support along the way. The suspected shooter, 29-year-old Jeremiah Johnson, fled into the woods and died by suicide.

The funeral for St. Croix County Deputy Kaitie Leising, who was shot and killed in the line of duty, will be held on Friday afternoon with law enforcement honors. A law enforcement procession will take place around 3 p.m. and delays are expected along the route. Roughly 1,500 officers are expected to attend Friday’s events. Law enforcement officers and community members are invited to attend a prayer vigil hosted by a former police chaplain at the steps of the Minnesota State Capitol Friday night starting at 6 p.m.

St. Croix County Deputy Killed in Line of Duty Identified by DOJ

St. Croix County Deputy Kaitie Leising, 29, was shot and killed while investigating a vehicle in the ditch with a possible impaired driver just outside of Glenwood City. The suspect was later found dead in a wooded area with a gunshot wound. The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation. This is the third incident within the past month where a law enforcement officer died in the line of duty in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
