Iowa-owned horses make impressive showing at Kentucky Derby.
Dennis Albaugh, an Ankeny-based horse owner, failed to win his first Kentucky Derby as his three horses, including race favorite Angel of Empire, finished outside the winner's circle. Albaugh has had six Derby entrants, with the highest finisher being Brody's Cause in 2016. It is unclear which of Albaugh's horses will run in the second leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes, on May 20. Horse racing enthusiasts at Prairie Meadows in Iowa were excited to see an Iowa horse, Angel of Empire, finish third in the race.
