Michigan Implements New Laws to Improve Reporting, Food Assistance, Child Marriage, and Business Development
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed a new law that reduces the penalty for failing to report a deer harvest. Previously, hunters faced fines of up to $500 and potential jail time for not reporting their harvest within 72 hours. The new law lowers the penalty to a one-time fine of $150. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) encourages hunters to report their harvest using the streamlined online or phone reporting system, which takes about five minutes or less to complete. Hunting groups have welcomed the reduced penalty, stating that it is a more reasonable consequence for failing to report.
