OpenAI has suspended the developer behind Dean.Bot, a ChatGPT-powered bot designed to impersonate Democratic presidential candidate Dean Phillips to support his campaign, as it goes against OpenAI’s policies. The bot, created by AI startup Delphi for a super PAC supporting Phillips, engaged with website visitors after showing a disclaimer. OpenAI’s actions come after it published measures to prevent technology misuse ahead of the 2024 elections, explicitly prohibiting chatbots impersonating candidates and applications for political campaigning and lobbying. Delphi initially removed ChatGPT from the bot but ultimately took it down after OpenAI's intervention.
