U2’s Defiantly Joyful Return: Mullen Resumes Drums as New Album Takes Shape
U2 is recording a follow-up to Songs of Experience with Larry Mullen Jr. back on drums after neck surgery, following Bram van den Berg’s stint during the Sphere residency. The band released the Days of Ash EP and Bono says roughly 25 songs are in contention for future projects, with a mood described as “defiantly joyful” and celebratory rather than mournful; there is no timeline yet, but the album isn’t far behind, and Mullen says he’s rebuilt and playing with renewed energy.
