David Carr advances to the 165-pound national finals, defeating O'Toole for the third time in a historic five-part rivalry and preventing O'Toole from winning his third consecutive national title. Iowa State has four All-Americans for the first time since 2009, with Carr, Frost, and Swiderski securing their spots on the podium. Medal rounds will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. on ESPNU, while finals begin at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
Spencer Lee lost in the very first match of the evening, stopping him from becoming Iowa’s first four-time NCAA champion, but Iowa responded by winning seven consecutive matches and solidifying its spot in second place overall, behind only mighty Penn State, with six All-Americans. David Carr and Parker Keckeisen are also All-Americans and will compete in the NCAA finals for Iowa State and Northern Iowa, respectively. Tanner Sloan, from tiny Alburnett, Iowa, will also compete in the finals for South Dakota State.
