"Run-DMC's Darryl McDaniels: Confronting Depression Through Daily Olde English Consumption"
Darryl McDaniels, founding member of hip-hop group Run-DMC, revealed that during the height of his alcoholism battle, he was consuming a case of Olde English beer per day. McDaniels attributed his depression to the changes in Run-DMC's look and sound brought about by his late bandmate Jam Master Jay. He also battled suicidal thoughts when he was unable to rap due to unexplained vocal spasms. McDaniels was later diagnosed with Spasmodic Dysphonia. Despite his struggles, McDaniels has found success in other fields and continues to be recognized as a pioneer of the hip-hop scene.
