Pirates target ships and crew in Gulf of Guinea attacks.
Pirates hijacked the Danish-owned Liberian-flagged Monjasa Reformer in the Gulf of Guinea, kidnapping six of the 16 crew members. The ship was found off the coast of Sao Tome and Principe, with the pirates having abandoned the vessel and taken some of the crew members with them. The Gulf of Guinea has long been plagued by piracy, but patrols by West African and international navies have contributed to a decline in incidents. Danish Shipping has called for more action to be taken to address the issue.
