Director Jon M. Chu has shared the first look at the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the classic Oz tale, Wicked, in the form of Cynthia Erivo's Elphaba and Ariana Grande's Glinda. The Wicked film is an adaptation of the 2003 Broadway musical, which is based on the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Time of the Wicked Witch of the West, and that is a prequel of sorts for L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the 1939 film from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Wicked will actually become two films, and the first movie is set to be released in theaters on July 27, 2024.
