The Myanmar military has raided KK Park, a notorious scam hub linked to Chinese mafia and human trafficking, as part of its efforts to regain control amid ongoing civil conflict, revealing ongoing illegal activities and international connections.
The US has imposed sanctions on cyber scam centers in Southeast Asia, particularly in Myanmar and Cambodia, which are involved in large-scale online fraud and forced labor, causing over $10 billion in losses to Americans last year and raising concerns over human rights abuses and modern slavery.
The US State Department has identified a "rapidly growing and troubling trend" of forced labor linked to cyber scams, particularly in Southeast Asia, as it launched its annual human trafficking report. The report also highlights that men and boys can be victims of trafficking and may not always be recognized as such. The report identifies which governments around the world are meeting the minimum standards to eliminate human trafficking and which have failed in their efforts to combat it. 24 countries, including Russia, China, Afghanistan, Syria, and North Korea, are listed in Tier 3 for failing to meet the minimum standards.
