"Nvidia Cofounder's Off-Grid Lifestyle Costs Him $70 Billion in Potential Wealth"
Curtis Priem, the cofounder of Nvidia, could have been worth $70 billion if he had held onto his stock, but instead, he sold most of it and donated a significant portion of his fortune to his alma mater, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Priem has given $275 million to RPI since 2001, accounting for 40% of the university's total gifts during that period. He has also pledged approximately $80 million more. Priem, who lives off the grid in California, recently helped RPI become the first university in the world to house an IBM Quantum System One computer. Despite regrets about not keeping more Nvidia shares, Priem finds purpose and solace in his philanthropic work with RPI.
