Crystal Mangum freed after serving sentence for 2011 murder; admits Duke lacrosse allegations were false
Crystal Mangum, the former exotic dancer known for falsely accusing Duke lacrosse players of rape, was released from prison after serving a 14-to-18-year sentence for fatally stabbing her boyfriend Reginald Daye in 2011. She admitted in 2024 that her 2006 Duke allegations were fabricated, and the Duke lacrosse charges were dropped in 2006 after former Durham County DA Mike Nifong was disbarred in 2007 for misconduct. Mangum had also been convicted of arson that endangered her three children. She is set to live with a friend in Durham.
