"Denmark's Royal Transition: From Queen Margrethe's Abdication to Crown Princess Mary's Ascent to Queen Consort"
Queen Margrethe II of Denmark will abdicate the throne on January 14, 2024, after a 52-year reign, marking the first Danish abdication in nearly 900 years. Her son, Crown Prince Frederik, will become King Frederik X, with his wife becoming Queen Mary, and their son Prince Christian becoming the Crown Prince. The official ceremonies will include a Council of State meeting, a balcony proclamation, and the transfer of royal colors. Despite her abdication, Margrethe will retain the title HM Queen Margrethe.
