Five-time Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race winner Dallas Seavey is taking a bold gamble by pushing all the way to Cripple before taking his mandatory 24-hour rest, a strategy that has worked for him in the past but carries risks of overtaxing the dogs and encountering unpredictable trail conditions. Despite a two-hour penalty for insufficiently gutting a moose he shot in defense of his team, Seavey remains at the front of the pack, while other mushers opt to rest at earlier checkpoints.
