Japanese Yakuza Leader Arrested for Trafficking Nuclear Materials to Iran
Takeshi Ebisawa, a leader of the Yakuza crime syndicate, has been charged in New York for attempting to traffic nuclear material to Iran. He was caught trying to sell uranium and weapons-grade plutonium to an undercover DEA agent, fully expecting Iran to use it for nuclear weapons. The materials came from an unidentified leader of an insurgent group in Myanmar, and Ebisawa also negotiated for the purchase of deadly weapons, including surface-to-air missiles. He faces multiple charges, including conspiracy to import narcotics and conspiracy to traffic nuclear material, and is scheduled to be arraigned in federal court.
