NASCAR penalized Hendrick Motorsports drivers Alex Bowman and William Byron with 60 points and five playoff points, suspended their interim crew chiefs for two races, and fined them $75,000 after finding a modification to the greenhouse during a teardown of their Richmond cars. This is the second penalty in four weeks issued to the Hendrick Motorsports drivers. NASCAR also won two appeals decisions this week, reducing a 100-point penalty to 75 points and upholding a penalty of 25 points and $50,000 to Denny Hamlin for intentionally wrecking Ross Chastain at Phoenix.
Hendrick Motorsports has selected four interim crew chiefs to work with its Cup Series drivers this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway after NASCAR suspended their regular crew chiefs for four races as part of penalties assessed to the Hendrick team for parts violations at Phoenix Raceway last week. Hendrick announced that it will appeal the penalties but has chosen not to defer the suspensions of Cliff Daniels, Alan Gustafson, Rudy Fugle and Blake Harris.
