The mayor and his family were unharmed, and their thoughts are with the affected families. A 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit on Monday afternoon, causing extensive damage and prompting the dispatch of 1,000 Japanese soldiers to assist in rescue operations. The mayor is expected to travel back to Louisville later in the week.
