The Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority cited "unprecedented disruptions" from the COVID-19 pandemic as the cause, with different restrictions in the U.S. and Canada affecting progress. Despite the delay, significant milestones were achieved in 2022 and 2023, and the bridge is set to become North America's longest cable-stayed bridge upon completion. The authority has also extended its Community Benefits plan by a year to align with the new timeline.
