Facebook Content Moderators in Kenya: Lawsuit Exposes Global Ripple of Work 'Torture'
Nearly 200 former content moderators in Kenya are suing Facebook and local contractor Sama over poor working conditions, including insufficient mental health support and low pay. The moderators, who were responsible for screening and removing illegal or harmful content, are seeking a $1.6 billion compensation fund. They allege that the companies are ignoring a court order to extend their contracts until the case is resolved. This lawsuit, the first known court challenge outside the United States, could have implications for social media moderators worldwide.
