NFC Payments Set to Go Fully Contactless and Faster in the Near Future
The NFC Forum has released a technology roadmap for near field communication (NFC) through 2028, with plans to increase the range of NFC to four to six times the current operating distance, improve wireless charging specification from 1 watt to 3 watts, and support several actions with a single tap. These developments could enable faster transactions, fewer failed ones, and the possibility of NFC-enabled smartphones serving as point-of-sale devices in the future. The timeframe for these plans spans two to five years.
