The Berlin Film Festival has announced the lineup for its official competition and Encounters section, featuring 20 films including La Cocina starring Rooney Mara, Dahomey by Mati Diop, and A Traveler’s Needs starring Isabelle Huppert. The festival will also include sidebars such as Panorama, Forum, and Berlinale Special, with highlights including a documentary about British filmmakers Powell and Pressburger narrated by Martin Scorsese, and the latest feature from British filmmaker Rose Glass. The Cannes Film Festival has unveiled its lineup for the 2023 event, featuring an all-star cast of international filmmakers and actors. The competition lineup includes new films from Wes Anderson, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Ken Loach, Todd Haynes, Nanni Moretti, and Aki Kaurismäki. Cannes has also packed its out-of-competition screenings with blockbusters, including Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, as well as a new documentary from Oscar winner Steve McQueen. Five female directors in competition is an all-time record for Cannes, but it is still a long way from gender parity.
