Oakland Teachers and School District Reach Agreement on 'Common Good' Demands Amid Strike
After seven days of striking, Oakland teachers and the school district have agreed on four "common good" demands, including addressing racial equity, homelessness, and environmental justice for students. The demands include shared governance of community schools, creating Black Thriving Community Schools, committing to a series of steps before closing another school, and collaborating on housing and transportation improvements. The union and district are still negotiating compensation boosts for staff across the school system.
