"Higher Bonuses Tempt Naval Aviators to Become Commanding Officers"
The U.S. Navy is offering naval aviators cash bonuses of over $100,000 to encourage them to stay in the service and become senior officers and admirals. Pilots who are commanders and eligible to lead a squadron can receive $105,000 if they agree to three more years of service, with an additional two-year option offering a $35,000 bonus. The Navy aims to retain highly talented aviators and flight officers with valuable skill sets and leadership potential. Retaining pilots has been a challenge for the Navy, but not as severe as the struggle faced by the surface warfare community. Similar retention programs are also available for reserve pilots.
