Multiple New York Drivers Arrested for Fleeing Traffic Stops and DWI Charges

A Colonie man, Anthony Hawkins, was arrested on June 15 after fleeing from a traffic stop five days prior. Hawkins faces multiple charges, including felony driving while intoxicated, second-degree reckless endangerment, and second-degree obstructing governmental administration. He had multiple previous DWI convictions in the last ten years. Hawkins turned himself in to Clifton Park State Police and was remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility without bail.

Asylum seekers and legal migrants face hostility and violations in Capital Region.

Asylum seekers have arrived in the Capital Region, with Colonie Town Supervisor blaming the unexpected arrival on the city of Albany. However, Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan denies this and says that New York City is footing the bill for the migrants' accommodation, food, health services, and intake services. The Refugee & Immigrant Support Services of Emmaus (RISSE) is one of the organizations helping in the support of the migrants. Direct communication between municipalities and New York City is necessary to prevent overcrowding in shelters.

Migrants seek refuge in Colonie amidst shocking conditions.

More than 20 asylum-seekers driven from New York City arrived at the SureStay Plus by Best Western Hotel on Wolf Road in Colonie, New York, early Sunday morning. The town supervisor alleged that New York City Mayor Eric Adams failed to notify the Albany County executive’s office of the plan, a violation of a county executive order issued Tuesday. The town was not equipped to service “an influx of persons of unknown health, dietary, and behavioral histories.” Albany County Executive Dan McCoy's May 23 executive order required that the county be notified to coordinate housing for migrants and asylum-seekers being transported here, and that only the county social services commissioner could issue licenses to hotels, motels or other dwellings to house groups of people.
