Colombian Migrants Face Charges for $20K Scam at Illinois Grocery Store
Three Colombian migrants have been arrested and charged with theft by deception after scamming an elderly woman out of over $20,000 at a grocery store in Illinois. The suspects approached the victim with a fake lottery ticket, claiming it was worth $6 million but needed money to collect the winnings. One suspect called the lottery authorities and convinced the victim that $30,000 was required to claim the prize. After the victim withdrew $20,143 from her bank, one suspect fled with the money while another acted as a lookout. The suspects have been released on bail and are scheduled to appear in court in December.
