"Gunman with Prior Attempted Murder Charge Buys Firearm, Commits Collierville Clinic Shooting"
Larry Pickens, the man accused of killing Dr. Benjamin Mauck in a Collierville clinic, had a previous attempted murder charge and was able to legally purchase the gun used in the shooting just eight days prior. Pickens had a history of run-ins with Memphis Police, including a domestic violence assault in 2016 where he stabbed his stepfather with a kitchen knife. Although there are police reports of these incidents, they do not appear on Pickens' criminal record. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and authorities had no prior contact with Pickens before the incident.
