"Pittsburgh Coffee Chain Shuts Down Amid Union Controversy"
Pittsburgh coffee chain Adda Coffee & Tea House is closing all of its four locations after its employees announced unionization with UFCW Local 1776, citing the need for living wages, fair scheduling, workplace policies, and a tip structure. The company stated that it had been operating at a loss since its inception, exacerbated by the pandemic, and despite efforts to re-evaluate its business model, its monetary reserves are depleted. The decision to close came after an all-employee meeting revealed that the business could not be turned around without additional investment.
