USC Football Penalized with Probation and Fine for Coaching Violations
The University of Southern California (USC) football program has been fined $50,000 and placed on a one-year probation by the NCAA for exceeding the permissible number of countable coaches during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. The violations involved eight analysts engaging in coaching activities, leading to an excess of six coaches. Head coach Lincoln Riley was not suspended as he was not personally involved and promoted compliance. Additional penalties include restrictions on analyst participation in practice and film review, and a reduction in athletically related activities.
