SmileDirectClub's Closure Leaves Customers Frustrated and Confused
SmileDirectClub, a teledentistry start-up that aimed to disrupt the orthodontics industry by providing clear aligners without in-person dentist appointments, has ceased operations after failing to successfully restructure its operations and liabilities through bankruptcy. The company entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September and officially halted its operations on Friday. Existing customers will need to find alternative providers for their aligner treatment, and orders that hadn't shipped will be canceled. The company's Lifetime Smile Guarantee no longer exists, but customers enrolled in the SmilePay Plan are expected to continue making payments. Refund information will be provided once the bankruptcy process determines next steps.
