Renault's Affordable Electric City Car Aims to Rival Tesla in Europe
Renault's EV unit Ampere is set to unveil an "affordable" electric city car this week, replacing the Twingo and serving as an entry point to Ampere's EV lineup. The new car, which will be smaller than the planned relaunch of the R5 hatchback, is expected to be priced around €20,000, potentially even closer to €15,000. It will be built in Slovenia and is aimed at reassuring investors ahead of Renault's IPO. Ampere plans to add five more models by 2030 and aims to achieve a production capacity of 400,000 EVs initially, ramping up to 1 million by 2031.
