Microsoft Discontinues Windows 11 SE for Education
Microsoft has announced that Windows 11 SE, a specialized edition for low-cost school PCs, will be discontinued with support ending in October 2026. The edition, designed to be a simplified, cloud-first OS for educational devices, failed to deliver a lightweight experience suitable for low-end hardware and will not receive further updates. Microsoft has no current lightweight Windows alternative for the low-end education market, leaving Chrome OS as the dominant platform in schools.
