Square Enix has re-released its game, Chocobo GP, without its controversial microtransactions. The game's grindy season pass was plagued by microtransactions, and players complained about new characters being locked behind paywalls or battle pass grinds. The publisher has abandoned the game after the Season 5 update, and players can no longer buy mythril, the in-game currency, on the eShop. The game's re-release version is available at a total retail price tag of $50, and players can transfer their save from the stripped-down free-to-play version by buying an "upgrade" DLC.
The eShop listing for Chocobo GP has been updated with a new release date of June 15, 2023, following the removal of the "Lite" version and Mythril Shop. All existing paid content can now be unlocked with Tickets and Gil coins, which can be obtained by clearing missions and leveling up across multiple modes in the game. The Mythril Shop has been completely removed, with just the Ticket and Gil Shop remaining.
Square Enix has updated its Final Fantasy racing game, Chocobo GP, to remove all microtransactions and allow players to unlock all in-game items without spending any money. The game's free-to-play version, Chocobo GP Lite, has been discontinued, and players can now simply grind to unlock characters and costumes. However, Square Enix has also announced that there will be no further large-scale updates to the game after December 2022.
Square Enix has re-released Chocobo GP on the Nintendo Switch eShop without any micro-transactions, allowing players to unlock everything in-game and offline. The game had been removed from the eShop earlier this month due to its infamous micro-transactions and locked characters.
