Fremantle Court Hears Alleged Child Exploitation Charges Against Australian Author
Renowned Australian author Craig Silvey appeared in Fremantle Magistrates Court charged with possessing and distributing child exploitation material. He did not enter a plea and was granted bail with a $100,000 surety and $100,000 personal undertaking, under conditions including not leaving Western Australia, not working with children, and restricted internet use. Prosecutors alleged online communications indicating a sexual interest in children and that Silvey used the alias 'Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy', with detectives seeking access to his devices via a court order. His next court date is February 10. The case prompted authorities to rethink using his works in schools and led the City of Subiaco to sever ties with his Young Writers Award patronage.
