Florida Girl Awarded $800K in Damages After McDonald's Chicken McNugget Burn Incident

A South Florida jury has awarded $800,000 in damages to a little girl who was severely burned when a hot Chicken McNugget fell on her leg as her mother pulled away from a McDonald's drive-thru. The jury's verdict form allotted $400,000 in damages for the past four years and another $400,000 for the future from McDonald's USA and its franchise operator. The girl's mother testified that at no point did McDonald's warn her the food might be unusually hot. This case may draw comparisons to the infamous McDonald's coffee lawsuit of the 1990s.

McDonald's held responsible for burns caused by hot McNugget in trial verdict.

McDonald's and a franchise holder have been found liable by a jury in South Florida after a hot Chicken McNugget from a Happy Meal fell on a little girl's leg and caused second-degree burns. The franchise holder was found liable for negligence and failure to warn customers about the risk of hot food, while McDonald's USA was found liable for failing to provide instructions for safe handling of the food. The jury dismissed the argument that the product was defective. A second jury will determine how much McDonald's USA and its franchise owner, Upchurch Foods, will pay the child and her mother.
