Paid Users of X (formerly Twitter) Can Now Hide Their Checkmarks

X, formerly known as Twitter, now allows paid users to hide their verification checkmarks. The option to hide the checkmark will be available in the account settings under "Profile customization." This feature aims to help users benefit from subscription features without displaying their verified status. The company has not provided further details about where the checkmark might still be visible. X has been introducing various features and incentives, such as a 10,000-character limit for posts and ad revenue sharing, to encourage user engagement on the platform.

Fake Disney account promotes Twitter Blue with dead celebrity claims

Twitter mistakenly verified accounts of dead celebrities and living celebrities who didn't pay for it, claiming they subscribed to the $8-per-month Twitter Blue service. The blue checkmark now suggests that the account holder paid for the badge and verified their identities. Twitter also mistakenly awarded its gold verification badge to a fake Disney account that had posted racist slurs. The unpaid-for blue checkmarks are generally appearing on accounts with at least 1 million followers, and almost all accounts with more than 1 million followers were "gifted" a Twitter Blue subscription yesterday against their will.
