French actor Gérard Depardieu will face trial for alleged 2018 rape of Charlotte Arnould, marking a significant moment in France's #MeToo movement amid numerous allegations and public debate over justice and industry culture.
French actor Gérard Depardieu has been accused of sexually inappropriate behavior by 13 women in relation to eleven films and series between 2004 – 2022. Depardieu’s lawyers deny the charges, stating that some of the accounts appeared to be based on “very subjective assessments and/or moral judgments”. The accusations come in addition to rape charges brought against the actor by French actress Charlotte Arnould in 2018. The report also decried a culture within the film and TV industry of turning a blind eye to Depardieu’s actions.
