Pro Rock Climber Charlie Barrett Sentenced to Life for Yosemite Sexual Assaults
Professional rock climber Charlie Barrett has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually assaulting a woman three times during her visit to Yosemite National Park in 2016. Barrett, who has a history of sexual violence, used his status to assault women in the rock-climbing community and responded with threats and intimidation when they spoke out. Three other women testified against him, but charges were not pursued due to jurisdictional issues. Barrett plans to appeal the conviction, citing mental illness and claiming a conspiracy against him.
