Oracle has laid off hundreds of employees, rescinded job offers, and cut back open positions within its health unit, which includes electronic medical records firm Cerner. The layoffs were largely due to Cerner's challenged work with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which hired Cerner to replace its homemade medical records with Cerner's technology. The laid-off employees will receive severance pay equal to four weeks, plus one additional week for every year of service and a payout of vacation days.

Oracle has laid off hundreds of employees, rescinded job offers, and cut back open positions within its health unit, which includes health IT giant Cerner, due to challenges with a massive government contract with the US Department of Veterans Affairs. The project has been plagued with issues, leading to less government-related work for Cerner and resulting in this round of cuts. Cerner is Oracle's largest acquisition and a primary focus for chairman and CTO Larry Ellison, who believes it will prove Oracle's cloud business to the world.
