Tragic Death: Woman Plunges 48 Feet Down Hidden Well Shaft in Historic South Carolina Home
An 83-year-old woman tragically fell to her death after walking across rotting floorboards in a century-old South Carolina house and plummeting down a hidden well shaft that the owner was unaware of. Rescuers took nearly four hours to retrieve her body from the 48-foot deep hole. The woman, identified as Dorothy Louise Downey, was helping her daughter move when the accident occurred. The coroner ruled her death as an accident and stated that he had never encountered a similar case in his 31 years as coroner.
