Washington Post Publisher Fred Ryan to Lead Civility Initiative, Steps Down from Role

Fred Ryan, Publisher and CEO of The Washington Post, is stepping down to lead a nonpartisan Center on Public Civility at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation. Patty Stonesifer has been appointed interim CEO of The Washington Post to oversee the leadership team and steer the organization through a period of transition. Under Ryan's leadership, The Post saw multiple years of profitability, vastly expanded digital subscriptions, and launched Arc XP, an industry-leading, cloud-based digital platform.

Washington Post Publisher Fred Ryan to Depart, Lead Civility Initiative

Fred Ryan, the publisher and CEO of The Washington Post, will leave the company in August to lead the newly formed nonpartisan Center on Public Civility at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation. Patty Stonesifer, former CEO of the Gates Foundation, was named interim CEO of The Post and will lead the search for Ryan's replacement. Ryan's departure has nothing to do with the media industry's layoffs and declining audience numbers, and he believes The Post is well positioned for successful journalism.
