Albuquerque City Council Approves Zoning Changes for Casitas and Downtown Street Project.
Albuquerque City Council has approved zoning changes that will allow the building of "accessory dwelling units," or casitas, in most residential-zoned areas. The new laws will help multigenerational families stay together and add more units to the housing stock. Casitas will be limited to 750 square feet and require off-street parking. Homeowners can still build casitas for the purpose of renting them out, as long as they follow the rules written in the short-term rental ordinance.
