Police Fatally Shoot Carjacking Suspect in Deadly DC-Area Crime Spree
A man suspected of committing or attempting at least four carjackings in D.C. and Prince George’s County was fatally shot by police in Maryland after leaving one victim dead and another critically wounded. The violent spree, which also involved shootings at police vehicles, occurred in less than 10 hours. D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser described the shootings as "indiscriminate," and police believe the man may have been acting out of mental illness rather than for profit. The crime spree comes amid a surge in carjackings in the District, with more than half involving firearms.
