Cardinal Tagle in Spotlight as Caritas Elects New Leadership
Caritas Internationalis, the Catholic Church's leading humanitarian and social service confederation, is meeting in Rome to elect new leadership for the next four years. The organization's previous leadership was fired due to serious morale and management issues. Among those ousted was Filipino Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, who had served as the organization's president since May 2015. Tagle has been shortlisted as a front-runner to be the next pope, but there are concerns about his alleged inability to manage the previous leadership and his involvement in the case of a Belgian Salesian priest charged with child sexual abuse and possession of child pornography.
